Summary: I’m not sure where to start. First, we loved the location—this property is on a fantastic street in Rome. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended for us. The air conditioning in the entire hotel was apparently “broken,” and our stay happened to fall during one of the hottest weeks of the summer. The rooms were sweltering and became completely unbearable. Despite the staff communicating promptly, there was no real resolution. We asked for fans or alternate accommodations, but nothing materialized. After a few nights of cold showers and trying to sleep in stifling heat, we had to leave early and book another hotel—Hotel Villa Pamphili, which was a dream by comparison. The hotel offered a small refund—about $9 per night on each $200 room (we had two)—which didn’t come close to offsetting the discomfort or the cost of booking a last-minute alternative. We weren’t the only ones who left early—other guests did too. Common areas, especially upstairs, were so hot you could barely breathe. We found ourselves sitting on the steps outside most evenings, just trying to cool off. Under different conditions, this could have been a decent stay. But in extreme heat, it was a major letdown and a disappointing start to our European vacation.
