For those wishing to experience a foreign trip, why not book yourselves onto a ferry and do a day trip to Calais, France. Alternatively, you could drive to Folkestone to travel to Calais by the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, or even be in Paris for lunch and return again in the same day. Kingsdown is a peaceful Kent village with its own shingle beach that leads to the bay of St Margaret. Three pubs, all serving food, a local butcher with delicatessen, a general store, Post Office, and hairdresser are all available in the village. The beaches and cliffs of Kingsdown are part of the Site of Special Scientific Interest that reaches south to Folkestone, and the settlement is located at the northern end of the famed White Cliffs of Dover. The nearby seaside towns of Deal, Dover, and Broadstairs all have castles, museums, heritage, and history to offer visitors, as well as quaint tea rooms. Deal has a pier and two weekly markets, with the Wednesday farmers' market being particularly popular with locals. Inland, Canterbury, with its cathedral, Roman ruins, and fine retail centre, is a popular day trip.
