Positive: The apartment is located in a safe and quiet area of Rome. It has two bedrooms, a living/dining room, a extra room to be used as an office, a walk-in closet, two bathrooms of which one is equipped with a bath tub. It features high ceilings making it feel spacious. The decorations are also nice, with paintings on the walls, vintage pieces of furniture and old books.
Negative: The two biggest disappointments were the hot water and soundproofing. Every little sound outside was well-heard inside. At times it felt like the windows were open - so clearly we could hear when someone opened and closed the gate, walked past our windows, opened and closed the entrance door to the building. Our kids woke up on several occasions when this happened during the night. Hot water comes from an 80-litre boiler. We expected it should be enough for 2 baths or 4 quick showers. In practice it was enough only for 1 bath or two quick showers. So, we had to heat up water on the stove to make it possible for both our kids to have a bath in the evening. The other things we expected more of from an expensive apartment as this one were more comfortable mattresses and better air ventilation. The apartment rates poorly on both these important comfort criteria. There is space for improvement.
