Summary: The Anchor Inn is a little scruffy from the outside but don't let that put you off as the welcome inside is warm and genuine. The barman was charming and the locals and fellow residents all engaged in conversation. It's the type of establishment where everyone talks to each other and the dogs are fed treats. My room was clean and comfortable with a nice large walk-in shower with large pebbles on the bathroom floor which actually worked. The food, whilst nice, needs a few minor improvements. My pork belly came swimming in gravy which was absorbed by the creamy mash potato. Put the gravy in a jug so that the dish can be enjoyed without being drowned. Breakfast however was a disappointment and quite slow for someone staying on business. A single rasher of hard bacon that had all moisture removed without being crispy. The sausage was wet and flabby and no choice of egg. Given my genuine criticism, I liked the Anchor Inn and would definitely stay again due to its friendliness.
