Positive: Hotel Gold River is old school western themed and they executed the theme 100%. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. The food was outstanding in our opinion. We paid for full board so we had breakfast and dinner at the buffet, and lunch inside the parks. The buffet had really lovely food options. We had sushi, sirloin steak, vegetables, cheese boards, amazing desserts. The food was really good quality and the service was brilliant. Bonus for me was that they offered freshly squeezed juices as I make my own at home. There were loads of healthy but tasty options as well as delicious churros, pancakes, cakes and continental options. They offered full English options plus loads of freshly repeated fruit… actual fruit and not the tinned variety! Our room for 2 adults and 2 children was huge. We had 2 bathrooms, a seperate bedroom plus an extra double and 2x singles which joined to make a double in the main living area. The aircon was great, excellent power showers and a full size fridge. We ate lunch in the parks to save coming back to the hotel. The ques were quite bad at “lunch time” but it was expected as it was English half term and there were many school trips. The food options inside the parks were much better than I’d expected. I sort of expected hot dogs and burgers (which I don’t eat). But there were loads of good options and meal deals. I had Chinese one day, burritos and pizza. You could also get baguettes amongst other things. Top tip - My signal and wifi was poor in the park so make sure you log into the Portaventura app and download your lunch QR codes before you head to the park. If you have problems with that too, the lovely staff at the hotel reception will print off the QR codes for you. An adult lunch QR code is worth around €21 and a child was €14. Some of the onsite restaurants inside the parks offered excellent meals deals. So you could have a main, Salad, dessert and a drink in exchange for your QR code.

Negative: The only downside is that there are no real supermarkets around which are accessible by foot. I took a taxi across the road to the closest supermarket which cost around €10 each way. I wanted a good supply of bottled water, soft drinks , snacks etc for our hotel room. There is no way of walking to the supermarket as it’s behind the park perimeter and it’s a major road. FYI- there is a really good wine and alcohol shop attached to the building of the supermarket. You can sample wine from the barrel and enjoy a drink in the sunshine.

Summary: We had the most amazing time. We loved Hotel Gold River!
