## Neighborhood
The 1st district of Lyon is known for its historical and architectural richness. It is home to the city's administration with the Town Hall (see the Terreaux district) and is also a cultural hub with the Lyon Opera House.
The Opera House's recent history includes the creation of the Orchestre de l'Opéra in 1983, which quickly brought together young musicians and seasoned conductors to alternate between opera and symphonic repertoires. Prestigious names such as John Eliot Gardiner, Kent Nagano, Louis Langrée, and Iván Fischer have shaped the orchestra's history.
Place des Terreaux is a key center in the district, with the Town Hall, a large rectangular building with four pavilions and a central courtyard, built by Simon Maupin in the 17th century.
