Positive: We were at La Pirogue early December and we loved every second of our stay. Before diving into the details, I'd like to first give big kudos to the staff who was extremely friendly all along, from the second we entered the premise up to our leaving. There would be too many people to cite, but each and every one delivered beyond our expectations. The location was absolutely wonderfully situated within a very well maintained palm grove. The fine sand beach was absolutely clean and the water very calm (a nearby coral reef brakes the waves) shallow and warm. There were a lot of water activities included for free and some available for a fee. Regarding the accommodation, the bungalows were absolutely lovable and very functional. The bed was very comfortable, featuring a coffee machine and a mini bar with water, beers, sodas and chips (refurbished everyday with all-inclusive package). The bathroom was clean and water pressure was fine. There were plenty of options for eating and drinking. The main buffet-style restaurant (Wolmar) provides plenty of room for everyone with calmer areas for a more romantic dining experience. The quality of the food was good and changing every day. Two other restaurants (Coconut Café and Magenta) located on the beach were also available and could be booked at least one day in advance. In both places, we were welcomed by a friendly and lovable staff serving great food. There were also two bars on the beach (Beach bar and Coconut), one near the reception (Medine) and the Buddha Bar at Sugar Beach. We especially liked the fact that we had the opportunity to spend time in the hotel next door (Sugar Beach) where we could also enjoy drinks, the pool and the beach, it felt like having two hotels for the price of one. Very clever!! We spent most of the time on the beach and around the swimming pool. There were plenty of sun beds for everyone (with a small caveat that I explain next), both at La Pirogue and Sugar Beach.
Negative: Not much to say here, except maybe that if you want a sun bed on the beach, you need to arrive early. Most people resort to the detestable practice of reserving their spot early in the morning with their bath towel (both at the beach and the swimming pool), instead of playing fair game. So we enjoyed the sun beds within the palm grove until mid afternoon when people started leaving and then we could usually find a spot.
