The Three Churches in Mahone Bay are one of Maritime Canada's most famous views, and WATERFRONT LOON LODGE ON MAHONE BAY HARBOR has the best view of these historic landmarks from the 90' PRIVATE WHARF WITH SWIM FLOAT, shaded porch, picture windows & large casement windows throughout the house! NOTE THAT LOON LODGE IS PRESENTLY THE ONLY VACATION RENTAL WITH THIS FAMOUS, HEAD-ON VIEW OF THESE HISTORIC LANDMARKS.
PLAY IN THE WATER IN THE KAYAKS, CANOE AND WATER TOYS FROM THE PRIVATE WHARF WITH 4 COMFY ADIRONDACK CHAIRS. UNFORGETTABLE CANADIAN SUNSETS over the famous 3 Churches. HDTV WITH SATELLITE DISH, Wi-Fi HI-SPEED INTERNET, iPod stereo dock and well-equipped kitchen with an extensive spice rack. There are also 1.5 modern baths, leather furniture, HOTEL-QUALITY SHEETS AND TOWELS, wonderful folk art, a new washer/dryer and two gas barbecue grills. For recreation fun there are two Old Town kayaks, a light-weight Old Town canoe, three bikes, water toys, personal floating lounges, big float tubes, lots of beach gear, toys, boogie boards, swim fins/masks/snorkels, life jackets, bike helmets and lawn games.
Loon Lodge, on one of the Province's most beautiful waterside roads, is our personal home, not just another bare-bones rental, and is equipped accordingly with comfy leather furniture, luxury porch furniture, lots of fascinating antiques, folk art and original art as well as a varied summer reading library. IT'S JUST A SHORT WALK, PADDLE, OR PEDAL TO THE ENCHANTING AND JUSTLY FAMOUS MAHONE BAY VILLAGE with great restaurants, a NEW SALTBOX CRAFT BREW PUB WITH OUTDOOR DECK, another waterfront pub, boat tours, art galleries, public tennis, lifeguarded pool (with children's swimming lessons), GUIDED SEA KAYAK TOURS, organic farmers markets, festivals & concerts. Nearby are beautiful beaches, sailboat day charters (with lessons), tall ship day cruises (including the world-famous BLUENOSE), sailing camp for youths at the local yacht club, oceanfront golf, boogie-boarding and surfing, seaside hiking and fishing.
The Mahone Bay area, with 350 SEA ISLANDS, has some of the finest waterside walks, drives and bike rides in North America.
Mahone Bay village architecture, restaurants, galleries, concerts and festivals are enchanting, The SALTBOX BREWING COMPANY craft brewery and pub, the first in the county, has a large outdoor deck that has become the town's favorite place to socialize. The excellent Rebecca's waterfront restaurant is just an 7-minute walk from your door. a few more new restaurants are planned for 2021
The Lodge is also located on ONE OF THE PROVINCE'S LOVELIEST WATERSIDE ROADS that we often walk or cycle out to the sweet little village of Indian Point at the end, meeting the neighbors and enjoying the spectacular views along the way, including wooden sailing schooners and other pretty yachts and workboats.
Nearby busy Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a mini-San Francisco, with steep streets, tall ships to sail on (including the world famous BLUENOSE) a wonderful FISHERIES MUSEUM (perfect for rainy days), varied shopping and a dramatic, harbor-view golf course. Nearby Chester has another ocean-front golf course as well as an active local theater.
The Nature Conservancy GAFF POINT PARK walking trail next to Hirtle Beach is a wonderfully scenic 30 minute drive and is a perfect picnic spot (dogs allowed). The Ovens Park, on the way to Hirtle Beach, has walking tours of fascinating sea caves. World-famous Peggy's Cove lighthouse is 50 minutes away.
Other Activities: Canoe/kayaking/sailing/floating and swimming in Mahone Bay Harbor are daily options from the Lodge private wharf. It's an easy walk to Mahone Bay restaurants, pub, galleries, concerts and services. Or you can use one of the Lodge kayaks or canoe.
SURFING TRIPS on a 40-foot yacht can be arranged in nearby Blue Rocks.
HIKING TRAILS pervade the province and some of the best are listed in our personal 'THINGS TO DO' BINDER in the Lodge living room. There are additional hiking and kayaking guidebooks in the Lodge.There is even an 'Antiques and Arts' trail guide. You won't be bored!
GOLF: Nearby Lunenburg and Chester (both about 15 scenic minutes away) both have dramatic, waterfront golf courses that are open to the public. Our guests who report that both courses are gorgeous and challenging for all levels of golfer. Information on booking tee-times is in the Lodge personal 'Things To Do' binder in the Lodge living room. If you wish to book in advance prior to arriving at Loon Lodge, just let us know and we'll send you the contacts, or you may simply google 'Nova Scotia Golf Courses' and check out the courses in Lunenburg and Chester.
TENNIS: Mahone Bay has public tennis courts on Pleasant Street in the village.
PUBLIC, LIFE-GUARDED POOL: is also in the Village near the tennis courts and has swim lessons for the little ones.
MAHONE BAY CENTER: this local resource hosts numerous and varied events year round. Check their website.
Tall ship day cruises, including trips on the world famous replica fishing schooner "Bluenose" can be arranged in Lunenburg.
