Positive: Our family of 5 (four adults, one child) stayed in this apartment near DC for 4 nights. Overall, it was a great experience and I would stay here again. The host was generally very responsive and friendly. The apartment was quite spacious. The beds were very comfortable. The air conditioning was nice and cold. The couch was fairly comfortable. The balcony furniture was more comfortable than expected. All appliances were in good working order. Most of the instructions were easy to follow. It's important to read reviews and understand what this apartment stocks for your stay. Thankfully, I had read many reviews from their other apartment listings and we came fairly prepared. You will need to pack your own wash cloths. There were 2 laundry detergent pods, 2 dishwasher detergent pods, and the tiniest bottle of dish soap I've ever seen (cute!). There were some mini body care products in both bathrooms: lotion, body wash, shampoo, conditioner. There is no hand soap in the apartment, but we packed bar soap. The location of the apartment was fantastic. We were able to walk to the nearby Crystal City metro station every day. A recommendation to the property: have a larger frying pan on hand. It was difficult to cook eggs for a family of 5 in the morning with a 6 inch frying pan.
Negative: Arriving and Parking: I couldn't get into the apartment complex, and had to wait for a passerby to open the door for me. The parking directions were very unclear. I was told I would be sent the code to open the lockbox in the apartment which contains the parking pass before we arrived. I was not. We had to park in the wrong area after getting permission from the apartment complex while I texted, emailed, and called every number I had access to in order to get this code that I needed. This was incredibly stressful. Cleanliness: Overall, the apartment was very clean and nice. However, the kitchen counters and cabinets were not clean and we ended up having to wash the counters down. The cabinets have that old kitchen type of grease/grime feel to them. Showers: The vents in both showers do not work so the bathrooms got very steamy and then made the apartment quite humid. With a family of 5 trekking around DC for 4 days in the heat of summer we required many showers. Thankfully, this was just a temporary discomfort each time and the air conditioning brought the humidity down after awhile. Smoking: Maybe this doesn't matter to most people, but my husband and I like to enjoy a cigar together on special occasions and one of the days of our visit was our 21st wedding anniversary. Of course we knew the apartment was non-smoking, we ourselves would never smoke indoors. However, we assumed we would be able to enjoy an adult beverage and a cigar out on the balcony on our anniversary. There was nothing in the small print when we signed up that would prohibit this. However, when I was looking through emails for the parking pass information on the day we arrived, I found that we had been emailed just before our visit (weeks after booking) about how the entire complex is smoke-free and we could be fined $500 for even smoking within 50 feet of the building! I felt this should have been stated up-front.
Summary: Spacious and comfortable apartment, great location!
